Green Chili Cheese Dip
This is my BFF’s chip dip to die for. I made it one afternoon and it was gone ten minutes after the kids got home from school. Amazingly savory. Hard to leave alone. YUMMY!

Austin’s Best Queso
I’ll admit I spent my whole week in Austin confused about queso. ”Doesn’t it just mean cheese?” I wondered, thinking back to seventh grade Spanish class. But everyone else seemed so excited by it, more than I think they would have been if it had just been plain cheese. Finally, Wikipedia enlightened me on the ingredients, and now I understand the appeal of this spicy, creamy, smooth cheese dip. Let’s take a look atAustin’s best quesos.
Green Chile Queso & Chips at Torchy’s Tacos
This queso is enhanced with guacamole, queso fresco, cilantro, and perhaps most importantly, Torchy’s spicy Diablo Sauce. ”One of the best bowls of queso in the city!” raves Miles B., Tasted Menu’s Top Gourmand of queso. (Check out the rest of his queso reviews here.)
Fresh Spinach Queso at Maudie’s Hill Country
As the name suggests, this bright green queso features a healthy dose of spinach. ”The BEST idea for queso ever,” writes Way Out West Austin.
Kerbey Queso at Kerbey Lane Cafe
Miles B. also calls this queso one of the best bowls in the city (along with the first bowl that we featured, Torchy’s green chile queso). It includes guacamole and pico de gallo, and diners have the option to make it a “cowboy queso” with the addition of black beans.
Homemade Beer Cheese at Easy Tiger
The next queso on our list is really more Käse than queso, but this German-influenced beer cheese is certain to please. ”Goes great with the homemade pretzels,” writes Jane Ko.
Chile Con Queso Compuesto at Casa Garcias
This one’s sure to please the carnivores; it features picadillo meat. ”The beef makes it slightly greasy,” notes Miles B., “but the avocado adds a nice creaminess to this queso.”

Little Rock – The World Cheese Dip Championship (“WCDC”) has solidified its reputation as one of the premier food festivals in Arkansas by hosting an event that attracted competitors and attendees from across the country.
The contestants brought innovative and surprising cheese dips from Vermont, New York, and throughout Arkansas to vie for the coveted title of World Cheese Dip Champion.
This year’s Professional Division Champion was Dogtown Coffee and Cookery, hailing from North Little Rock, Arkansas. Congratulations to Chef Jason Godwin and his team who will represent Arkansas and the WCDC in the New Orleans Roadfood Festival! The Concheeztadors led by Jeff Williams of Sherwood, Arkansas were selected as the 2011 Amateur Division Champions. The People’s Champion presented by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette in the Professional Division was Dizzy’s Gypsy Bistro in Little Rock, Arkansas, who earned the title of Professional Division Champion last year; Team Roberts from Little Rock was crowned the People’s Champion sponsored by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette for our Amateur Division, and they were also the Amateur Division Champion in last year’s competition.
In addition to the tasty buffet of cheese dip, the inaugural Cheese Dip Chow Down eating contests, presented by Chicksandqueso.com of Atlanta, Georgia, Stoby’s of Conway, Arkansas and Kitchen Co. in Little Rock, Arkansas, was a gluttonous success, featuring competitors from local media outlets as well as festival attendees who decided to join in the fun. The 2011 Cheese Dip Chow Down Champion was Chris Blankenship who scarfed down 4.1 lbs. of cheese dip in 5 minutes. Spencer Watson, representing Sync Magazine, was named the 2011 Media Cheese Dip Champion. We watched in awe and amazement as their love of cheese dip was enthusiastically displayed for all the world.
Yahoo! attended the World Cheese Dip Championship, not only as a competitor with their signature cheese dip created by Celebrity Chef Allison Fishman but also to film the WCDC for release to their 800,000,000 followers. The Yahoo! team interviewed contestants and guests, and their WCDC show will debut on www.shine.yahoo.com on October 17th. The WCDC is proud to be featured on this global media outlet, particularly because we are only in our second year.
Harmony Health Clinic, Arkansas Convention & Event Marketing, Inc. and Nash, Raley, Rogers & Rippy would like to thank all of the teams, the thousands of attendees, the War Memorial Stadium staff, Ken Griffey with the Arkansas RV & Boat Super Show, and the almost 200 volunteers who all helped make this year’s event a success for all involved. We are already working on our 2012 event and have big surprises in store for next year’s World Cheese Dip Championship

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SEPTEMBER 20, 2011
2nd Annual World Cheese Dip Championship to be held this Saturday, September 24th
This year’s cheese dip champions will be crowned at War Memorial Stadium
Little Rock – The Southern Cheese Dip Academy will host the 2nd Annual World Cheese Dip Championship at the event’s new location, AT&T Field at War Memorial Stadium, on Saturday, September 24, 2011, from 1:00pm until 7:30pm.
Come watch competitors from around the nation test their skills at creating the world’s best cheese dip. The Championship will be divided into Amateur and Professional divisions, and winners will be determined by a panel of local celebrities, politicians, and food critics through a series of blind tastings. Festival attendees will be able to vote to help determine who will receive this year’s PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARDS presented by Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
Winners will receive cash prizes, as well as trophies created exclusively for the event by a local artist, and the overall Professional Division Champion will also be awarded the opportunity to participate in the 2012 New Orleans Roadfood Festival held in the historic French Quarter.
This year’s Championship will also be the official University of Arkansas Alumni Association Watch Party location for the Arkansas vs. Alabama football game, and all attendees will be able to enjoy over twenty varieties of cheese dip while watching the Hogs on War Memorial’s jumbotron inside the stadium. The event will also feature children’s activities and live local music. Beverages and other foods will be available for purchase throughout the stadium and in the Beer Garden presented by Sync. Plus, we’ve added a new competition to this year’s extravaganza. Our friends at Chicksandqueso.com are sponsoring the inaugural World Cheese Dip Championship Chow Down, cheese dip eating contests that will take place during halftime of the Arkansas vs. Alabama football game. Six names will be drawn between the first and second quarters to determine the Chow Down competitors. Registration information will be located at designated areas throughout the stadium. There will also be a Media Cheese Dip Chow Down immediately following. You don’t want to miss the action!
This weekend, War Memorial Stadium will also be the site of the 3rd Annual Arkansas Boat & RV Super Sale, where guests can browse new and used boats, RVs, motorcycles, and ATVs in the parking lot outside the World Cheese Dip Championship at no cost. The Super Sale’s show hours will be Friday, September 23, from noon until 7:00pm, Saturday, September 24, from 10:00am until 7:00pm, and Sunday, September 25, from 10:00am until 5:00pm.
“This year’s Championship will be bigger and better than ever,” said Southern Cheese Dip Academy founder Nick Rogers. “We have teams traveling from as far away as Vermont and New York, and we’re excited about crowning a new World Cheese Dip Champion. The best part is that it’s all for a great cause. While ticket proceeds will benefit the Harmony Health Clinic, we’ll also be collecting canned food donations at the gate for the Arkansas Food Bank. September is Hunger Action Month, and we hope attendees will come sample amazing cheese dip and support our two nonprofit partners and the incredible work they do.”
Online registration is open to the general public at www.CheeseDip.net for both the Amateur and Professional divisions of the World Cheese Dip Championship until September 21, 2011, and World Cheese Dip Championship ads will soon be appearing in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and Sync, our exclusive print media sponsors.
Tickets are on sale at all Pulaski and Saline County USA Drug stores. The cost of admission is $10 for adults; children ages 10 and under attend for free. Tickets will also be available at War Memorial Stadium on the day of the event. Proceeds from the Championship will benefit the Harmony Health Clinic, a local non-profit medical clinic that provides free health care for uninsured Pulaski County residents.
